The Album

"I've always been really involved in production and I produced this album by myself. I just love to make records. So I would definitely be interested in producing another act at some point.

The "Timeless" album was the perfect record for me to produce first, because I had that great blueprint with all the music. There were original versions of the songs, and I wanted to stay really true and authentic to those versions. I learned a lot about production on that record, but I kind of had the safety net (because I had) the blueprint of the originals. But this record started from scratch. It was a blank canvas. You can paint this picture any color you want, you can paint any shape or form or whatever. So it was more challenging than "Timeless" for me. Especially with songs that I wrote like "Anyway," which didn't even have a demo to base it off of. It was just guitar/vocal. I thought 'My gosh, how do I build this record? What instruments do I to use? What tempo does it need to be? What feel does it need to have?'

For so long people have been saying to me, "You should write, you should write." And I keep saying, "I'm not a songwriter. I don't want to write." I respect the art of songwriting so much that I have never really wanted to attempt it. The Warren Brothers were out touring with me and ... they said, "We are here every day, we don't have anything to do all day long. Let's write a song." And I said, "I'm not a songwriter. I don't write songs." They came to me in catering one night with this idea for "Anyway." "We started this idea for a song. Will you finish it with us?" And I said, "I love that. I want that song. It's my song." And they said, "Well, you have to finish it with us." So we sat down in the dressing room and in an hour we finished it up.

I love the process of being able to, on the front end, really make the words fit me and kind of put my thoughts into the song. I still don't have a desire to go to songwriting appointments every day. This is not my passion, but when you get something right and when you hit upon a line and it's finished and you can all look at each other and go, "Wow, that's really great," it is a great feeling, I have to say." Martina McBride

" About this album......It is the best record she has made to date, to begin with. Martina says that I said the same thing with every album, but I 100% believe that to be true. There are 11 songs on the album, with a 12th bonus cut that will be sold on iTunes only. Target will also have a bonus DVD available but the music part of the record is the same as everywhere else. She co-wrote three of the songs on this record - Anyway, How I Feel and a song called Beautiful Again. All three are incredible songs. Her producing skills are second to none, and her voice is the finest I have ever heard it. This music is stunning - Martina's ability to find (and now write) great songs is part of the reason she is still so successful all these years later. She found all this great music over the last year or so, and listened to thousands of songs in the process. The song she sings with Keith Urban is called "Trying To Find A Reason" and is a beautiful ballad. Keith sang the harmony and also played the guitar solo. He looked great and sang and played great and it was really wonderful working with him. One night on the phone Nicole got on and said she loved the song too, which was really nice! Another favorite of mine is a song called Love Land, with lyrics that are like poetry - written by a girl named Rachel Tibideau and Tom Douglas (who co-wrote Love's The Only House and God's Will). Rachel also co-wrote another song on the album called I'll Still Be Me and Martina sings this with a really soft, wispy voice - really touching. We are not sure what the next single is going to be but should know in the next week or two - we will then shoot a video for it and start the process again. Martina is really at a wonderful place in her life - the kids, her career, everything is moving along at a rapid pace and I have never seen her more comfortable in her skin than now. If I Had Your Name
Written by Hillary Lindsey, Steve McEwan and Gordie Sampson

Harmony Vocals: Wes Hightower and Troy Johnson

If I was a raindrop I would be fallin’
I would be fallin’ by now
If I was a rocket I would be flyin’
I would be flyin’ by now
If I was a wise man I would be doin’
What I should be doin’ by now

Chorus
‘Cause you’re like a new key made with the wrong cut
Stuck tryin’ to break into my home
You’re like a bottle sent with a message
But you’re sinkin’ like a stone
If I had your name
I’d be changin’ it right now

If I was a blanket I would be foldin’
I would be foldin’ by now
If I was a fast train I would be speedin’
Smokin’ and steamin’ with a hell of a sound
If I was a gambler I’d go for the quick win
I’d cash all my chips in and get outta town

Repeat Chorus

Repeat Chorus

"It’s no wonder Martina calls this 'One of the most clever kiss-off songs I’ve ever heard' The fiddle-laced rocker is full of spunk, thanks to such sassy lyrics as 'You’re like a new key made with the wrong cut/Stuck tryin’ to break into my home/You’re like a bottle sent with a message/But you’re sinkin’ like a stone/If I had your name/I’d be changin’ it by now.' Martina says, 'I like to take rocking, edgy songs that are more electric guitar-driven and add acoustic traditional instruments like mandolin and fiddle played with attitude and energy so that it all fits together. This song has such a unique feel and I think the juxtaposition of the rockin’ guitars with the mandolin and fiddle, make it really interesting musically.'" Sony BMG Music Entertainment

Cry Cry ('Til The Sun Shines)

Written by Marv Green, Chris Lindsey, Hillary Lindsey and Aimee Mayo

Harmony Vocals: Brett Warren and Martina McBride

I know a girl she was a waitress
Had a big spirit ‘til she let her boyfriend break it
He always talked her down, he took her pride and kicked it ‘round
Yeah, took it as long as she could take it
She left a note on the dresser and hung up her apron

Chorus
Cry, cry ‘til the sun shines baby
Cry, cry ‘til the sun shines
It’s gonna be alright, it’s gonna be alright, baby

I know a man who tried to ease his mind
Chase his regrets with any bottle he could find
Life cut him down so low, it took his pride and broke his soul, yeah
‘Til he forgave himself and let it go

Repeat Chorus

We’re all here just tryin’ to live our lives
Payin’ our electric bills and spendin’ up our time
When there ain’t a friend to be found
You can’t break through the concrete clouds
When the rain, when the rain comes crashin’ down

Repeat Chorus

"This melodic song is infused with hope. While assuring us “it’s gonna be alright,” it tells three different stories about overcoming obstacles and pushing through to the other side of heartache. While fresh and new, “Cry Cry” is reminiscent of classic Martina songs such as “My Baby Loves Me” and “Wild Angels”. The open, guitar-driven arrangement makes you want to get in your car and drive fast with the sun shining and all the windows down." Sony BMG Music Entertainment

Bass: Glenn Worf

Tryin’ To Find A Reason
Written by Tommy Lee James and Jeremy Stover

Harmony Vocals: Keith Urban

No love can survive for long like this
When you’re standing’ on a bridge that’s always burnin’
Maybe it’s just time to walk away
If you’re tryin’ to find a reason
Tryin’ to find a reason to stay

I don’t know how long this pain will last
All I know is it can’t go on forever
Isn’t this just pointless anyway
If you’re tryin’ to find a reason to stay

It’s hard to admit it what we know inside
We’ve tried everything, everything but goodbye
Say goodbye

If your heart has nothin’ left to give
If your world feels like it’s just stopped turnin’
Maybe that says all there is to say
If you’re tryin’ to find a reason to stay

It’s hard to admit it what we know inside
We’ve tried everything, everything but goodbye

Maybe it’s just time to walk away
If you’re tryin’ to find a reason
Tryin’ to find a reason to stay
Baby it’s just time to walk away
If you’re tryin’ to find a reason to stay

"This is the first thing he's done since he's been out. I saved this song for him. His was the only voice for it." Martina McBride

"This exquisitely wistful ballad—a goodbye song that makes your heart ache with sadness and regret—features the soulful guitar and lush harmony vocals of Keith Urban. According to Martina, 'I’m not one to put another artist on my record unless a song makes me think of a specific artist … and when I heard this song, I immediately thought, ‘Keith Urban has to sing on this with me.'" For These Times
Written by Leslie Satcher

Harmony Vocals: Vicki Hampton, Kim Fleming and Robert Bailey

In these times in which we live
Where the worst of what we live
Is laid out for all the world on the front page
And the sound of someone’s heartbreak
Is a soundbite at the news break
With a close shot of the tears rollin’ down their face
Blessed be the child who turns a loving eye
And stops to pray
For these times in which we live

In these most uncertain hours
Where the balance of power
Is a fight that is fought every day
And freedom is a word
Some cry out and some whisper
And some are just too quick to give away
Blessed be the one who stands by the one
On the battle line
For these times in which we live

Well give me a heart full of tender mercy
And arms I will open wide

For these times in which we live
Seems like the only answer is
Givin’ up on findin’ one at all
And we hide behind unsure
Pull the blinds and lock the doors
And hang a pleasant picture on the wall
Blessed is the believer who knows love is our redeemer
And the only breath of life
For these times in which we live

Well give me a heart full of tender mercy
And arms I will open wide
Yeah give me words full of loving kindness
And hands ready to hold up a light
For these times in which we live
For these times in which we live

"When Martina heard this Leslie Satcher tune toward the end of recording, she knew her album was complete: 'I’d been looking for a song that talks about these times we live in, and addresses issues that really bother me. I wanted lyrics that express how I truly feel, and these are perfect.' Indeed, the song grows with the passion it conveys, so much so that Martina says she had trouble singing louder than the band was playing, but all that energy pays off with a dynamic and uplifting track full of honesty and conviction." Anyway
Written by Martina McBride, Brad Warren and Brett Warren

You can spend your whole life buildin'
Somethin' from nothin'
One storm can come and blow it all away
Build it anyway

You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
Dream it anyway

(Chorus)
God is great, but sometimes life ain't good
When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should
But I do it anyway
I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
For all the right reasons
And in a moment they can choose to walk away
Love 'em anyway

(Repeat Chorus)

You can pour your soul out singin'
A song you believe in
That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang
Sing it anyway
Yeah sing it anyway

I sing
I dream
I love anyway

Martina premiered “Anyway” on the 40th Annual Country Music Awards, on November 6, 2006. It is the first song Martina has recorded and released that she co wrote. She co-wrote it with the Warren Brothers during her Timeless tour.

“I'm happy that this song has struck a chord with my fans. It's about believing in the bigger picture and realizing that we may not always know the plan for us, but we have the ability as human beings to see the good side and to have hope no matter what. We all need to feel that there is hope, especially in today's world. This song just encourages us to keep loving and giving and believing even when things don't work out the way we planned." Martina McBride

"The debut single, one of three songs on the album co-written by Martina, is a classic power anthem with a soaring melody featuring a string arrangement by David Campbell. Ultimately, it’s a song with a message of hope and strength—as the lyrics from the chorus attest: 'God is great, but sometimes life ain't good/When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should/But I do it anyway/I do it anyway.'" How I Feel
Written by Martina McBride, Brad Warren, Brett Warren, Chris Lindsey and Aimee Mayo

Harmony Vocals: Brett Warren

Confetti fallin’ from the sky
My hometown on the 4th of July
A midnight snow on Christmas Eve
Like standin’ up for what you believe

Chorus
That’s how I feel when I’m with you
That’s how I feel when I’m with you
That’s how I feel
That’s how I feel when I’m with you

Your lucky coat, the first day of fall
When you wake up laughin’ just because
An old church door that stays wide open
A perfect heart that’s never been broken

Repeat Chorus

That’s how I feel when I’m with you
Every day there’s something new
To cry about, to laugh about
Those moments I can’t live without
That’s how I feel
That’s how I feel
When I’m with you

"In this modern and melodic song, also a Martina co-write, she sings about many of the things that bring joy—confetti, snow, the first day of fall, standing up for what you believe—and compares them with the feelings you have for the one you love. It has a Beatlesque vibe that carries the listener on a musical journey." Sony BMG Music Entertainment

I’ll Still Be Me
Written by Tammy Hyler and Rachel Thibodeau

Harmony Vocals:

Woke up in the middle of the night and saw you sleepin’
I was hopin’ you were dreamin’ about me
Kissed your cheek and said “I love you”
You reached for me and then you mumbled
“I love you too, is everything ok?”

I said I’m fine baby, go back to sleep
I’ve just been thinkin’ life is changin’ ‘round us
And I hope you believe

I’ll still be me
Just a normal girl from small town nowhere
I’ll still hold your hand and wear this ring
I’ll still be me
If you can count on one thing, I’ll be here
The same girl that you’ve known for centuries
I’ll still be me

We said we wanted all of this
We made the plans together
And promised that we’d never forget
Drinkin' apple wine in our first kitchen
Throwin’ pennies in the well and wishin’
We’d spend our lives forever holdin’ hands

And here we are still holdin’ on
But if all the pretty things tied up in bows were gone

I’ll still be me
Just a normal girl from small town nowhere
I’ll still laugh at your jokes and argue over silly things
I’ll still be me
If you can count on one thing, I’ll be here
The same girl that you’ve known for centuries
I’ll still be me

Empires could rise and fall
The sun could swallow the moon
And I don’t hold a crystal ball
But I promise you

I’ll still be me
Just a normal girl from small town nowhere
I’ll still be the mommy of our babies
I’ll still be me
If you can count on one thing, I’ll be here
The same girl that you’ve known for centuries
I’ll still be me

"This beautiful ballad about a mature, reassuring love was actually written about Martina and her husband, John, though the writers didn’t want to reveal that fact until they knew Martina liked the song and wanted to cut it. It unfolds like a love letter of times past and present and is a testament to those who’ve found their soul mate in life." Sony BMG Music Entertainment

Beautiful Again
Written by Martina McBride, Brad Warren, Brett Warren and Nick Trevisick

Harmony Vocals: Carolyn  Dawn Johnson and Martina McBride

She was only ten when her daddy got fired
He drank away the family home and left them all alone
And then her mommy was just too tired
So she got sent away

She moved in with her aunt in Arizona
Everything was fine until she told on Uncle Bill
When he said he only wanted to hold her
She had to run away

Chorus
But when it rains, the past gets washed away, and then
She smiles 'cause she knows in the end
The world gets beautiful, beautiful again

Her boyfriend said I’m way too young to get married
But she made up her mind that somehow she was gonna
Find a way to keep that baby she carried
And he just walked away

Repeat Chorus

And when she’s lying all alone
Thinkin’ about her life she wonders
If she is wrong to believe in a better world
Then she sees her little girl
And she knows she is right ‘cause

Repeat Chorus

"This song provokes a strong, emotional reaction thanks to some disturbing lyrics cleverly juxtaposed with joyful music. Though the song tackles such difficult topics as abuse and neglect —subjects that would be taboo for most singers—Martina has consistently proven that she can use her music as a platform for what she believes, reaching out to those who need compassion, understanding and, above all, hope." Everybody Does
Written by Mike Mobley, Rachel Proctor and Dan Demay

Harmony Vocals: Wes Hightower, Troy Johnson and Martina McBride

This ain’t the first time you’ve fallen in love
With your heart wide open
Feeling just like a fool knowing that
You’re the only one left holding on
He broke your heart
You can’t cry hard enough
But you’re not the only one

Chorus
Everybody loves someone
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody says they’ll never fall again
But everybody does
Yeah, everybody does

How many times have you said he’s the one
And found out that he wasn’t
Always thinking it’s gonna hurt forever
But then one day it doesn’t anymore
You’ve come so far
Still a long way to go
Just remember you’re never alone

Repeat Chorus

Everybody jumps in
Never really knowin’
Where it’s really goin’
You just have to trust in
Your heart, oh yeah

Repeat Chorus

"Speaking of heroes. Most of you know how much I look up to Miss Martina. She has been such an influence on my singing and my writing. Well, last night [February 28, 2007] I got to go to a private listening party at Blackbird Studios here in Nashville. All of the songwriter's and publishers who have songs on the new album were invited. She played mine first because I had to leave early to go do a gig. That was the coolest thing she could've done for me. I would have died if I would've had to leave before hearing it. She introduced me and my co-writers to the room and then said that "Everybody Does" was the hookiest song she's heard in a long time. That she'd never heard so many hooks in 3 minutes and 20 seconds. As it played through the speakers I thought I was going to pass out. It sounded awesome. She is truly amazing. I even think John had a little tear in his eye...He was so proud of me he about burst. It sounded like a gigantic hit. My fingers are crossed that it will be. There was a buzz going around this morning in town that it might be the next single but I know how that goes so I'm knocking on wood and praying really hard. Nothing would make me happier." Rachel Proctor

"Proclaimed by Martina as 'one of the catchiest, hookiest songs in 3 minutes 27 seconds that I’ve ever heard,' the mid-tempo rocker is an ode to the trials and tribulations of love. This everyman song features 'every hook you could imagine, lyrically and melodically,' and reassures the brokenhearted that they are not alone." Sony BMG Music Entertainment

House Of A Thousand Dreams
Written by Billy Montana, Jenai and Ilya Toshinsky

Harmony Vocals: Jenifer Wrinkle

He says, “I’m just a man, I work with my hands
But lately no work has been around
I wish that I could put more on the table
Provide the life I’m sure my family dreams about”

Chorus
“But there’s cracks in all the walls and all the windows
And the flies, they find their way in through the screen
I just pray that hope will go on living
In this house of a thousand dreams”

She says, “my husband’s a good man
Gives all that he can
I know he thinks he’s let me down
I just want him and the children to be happy

It’s not always easy, but it’s all I dream about”

“So I’ll find some yard-sale curtains for the windows
And I’ll sew some yellow trim along the seams
And I’ll keep praying hope will go on living
In this house of a thousand dreams”

The boy says, “my daddy’s a strong man
My momma, she loves him
And they love my brother and sister and me
Sometimes at night we lay out in the backyard
And take turns wishing on the first star we see”

“And the crickets always sing outside the windows
And I love to feel the wind blow through the screen
And I sure hope that we can live forever
In this house of a thousand dreams”

“Yeah I sure hope that we can live forever
In this house of a thousand dreams”

"With a song she says takes her on a journey every time she hears it, Martina offers an ode to a struggling, middle-class family dreaming of a better life. The lyrics are unique in that they are presented from three different points of view: the father, mother, and young son." Sony BMG Music Entertainment

Love Land
Written by Tom Douglas and Rachel Thibodeau

Wasn’t wearing a wedding dress in a Vegas wedding chapel
They were herding us in and out of there like we were cattle
Not exactly the fairy tale that I had planned
But mama said aren’t you supposed to get married girl
Before you bring a baby in this world
And what could I say but yes ma’am

And I called her from that chapel in Love Land
I said I really love this man
Love Land

Seemed like a lifetime driving from Vegas to Oklahoma
If you’re allowed a number of mistakes in life maybe I’ve filled my quota
They called it a reception saying we did the right thing
And they smiled their broken smiles
Said who needs to walk down the aisle
And I showed off my wedding ring

And we walked away hand in hand to Love Land
Oh how I love this man
Love Land

Amazing all the progress we’ve made since the days of Thomas Edison
Still only God gives life in spite of modern medicine
Doctor’s voices whispered we did all that we could do
But your baby wasn’t strong enough
To make it the whole nine months
And as my world broke in two
He said I’ll carry you through to Love Land

For the longest time I blamed myself
Thought I was paying for my mistakes
But we tried again
Now we’re watchin’ him blow three candles out
He’s daddy’s little man
And only God could have planned
The steps I’ve taken
That led me to where I am
Love Land

Anywhere you hold my hand
Is Love Land

"This is the first song Martina found for the album, and she says she is still completely knocked out by it. 'Every time I hear this song, something new happens. It is one of those songs that is really special to me in a way that’s hard to describe.' Beautifully rendered, it tells a moving story of a quickie wedding due to an unplanned pregnancy, resulting in a union that, despite heartache and tragedy, has a life-affirming outcome. 'I think music and songs have the ability to heal, and I think this song will do just that for many people.'" Sony BMG Music Entertainment
