The Album

“I always say that some of the best songs are album cuts that never get on the radio. This project allowed me to go back and choose some of my very favorite songs that I have recorded. I feel like I'm offering a gift, actually, of some of my favorite songs. I was also asked to record two new songs. I chose two standards, "Together Again" and "At Last." So I was able to get creative and do something new for the fans who may already have these songs on other albums. And even though some of my fans may already have heard these songs, hearing them all together like this on one album is a really nice experience. This is the kind of album you put on to cook, hang out with friends or your special someone and just enjoy. It's really special and unique and I'm very proud of it.

I truly believe some of the best songs are album cuts which never get on the radio. This project allowed me to go back and choose some of my favorite songs I previously recorded. I feel like I’m offering a gift, actually, of some of my favorite songs.

It’s exciting to partner with a company that is not only known for being of the highest quality, but has actually set the standard for all others to follow. I have grown up with Hallmark, and the thought of my CD being in a Hallmark store is thrilling for me. I cannot wait to walk in and actually see it there!” Martina McBride

Born To Give My Love To You
Written by Pat Bunch, Pam Rose and Mary Ann Kennedy

I don't know what brought us there
Something in the stars says you and me
I don't know where this feeling comes from
Surely it was meant to be
For I have known you even in my dreams
My eyes are open, my heart can see

Chorus
As sure as stars light the midnight sky
As sure as children wonder why
As sure as newborn babies cry
I was born to give my love to you
Born to give my love to you

Heaven must be holding on
To all the love I'm feeling now
Here we are this is the moment
I believe it's our turn somehow
Hearts together, hands across the night
One forever, finally in sight

Chorus

I was born to give my love to you
(I was born to give my love to you)
I was born to give my love to you
I was born to give my love to you

"I recorded this after I had my first daughter and, to me, this song will always be about her. I remember sitting in my car and listening to this one night and it brought tears to my eyes because I was so happy and so in lover with my new baby girl. I will always associate this song with that feeling. Of course it's also a fabulous weeding song!" Martina McBride

Valentine
Written by Carol Chase, Jim Brickman and Jack Kugell

Produced by Dan Shea

Featuring Jim Brickman on Piano

If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you
If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I'd still feel for you

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine

All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
You've opened my eyes
And shown me how to love unselfishly

I've dreamed of this a thousand times before
In my dreams I couldn't love you more
I will give you my heart until the end of time
You're all I need, my love, my valentine

And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
'Cause all I need is you, My Valentine
You're all I need, my love, my Valentine

“Not much to say about this except that this was the first time I worked on anything with out Paul and that was a strange feeling. I had no idea this would be such a big hit. I enjoyed getting to know Jim Brickman and working on the video together (even though it was FREEZING!) This was originally meant o only be on his album, but we got such a great response from it that we decided to make a more country version and put it on Evolution. Usually when we do this in concert I show home movies of my kids while I’m singing it. It helps me connect with the words better if I think of them while singing it.

This song is special to a lot of people. It is a pretty song that is still a fan favorite. It is romantic and sweet.” Martina McBride

At Last

Written by M. Gordon and H. Warren

At last

My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

Ohh yeah yeah

At last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohh yeah yeah

You smile, you smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine at last

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohh yeah yeah

You smile, you smile
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven

For you are mine at last

At last... at last

“I've always thought this was a very romantic song. Just a great melody and a torch song. It was fun to sing and do something a little different. This one is perfect song for a slow dance in the living room. Do it. I dare ya.” Martina McBride

In My Daughter's Eyes

Written by James Slater

In my daughter's eyes I am a hero
I am strong and wise and I know no fear
But the truth is plain to see
She was sent to rescue me
I see who I wanna be
In my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes

And when she wraps her hand
around my finger
Oh it puts a smile in my heart
Everything becomes a little clearer
I realize what life is all about

It's hangin' on when your heart
has had enough
It's giving more when you feel like giving up
I've seen the light
It's in my daughter's eyes

In my daughter's eyes I can see the future
A reflection of who I am and what will be
Though she'll grow and someday leave
Maybe raise a family
When I'm gone I hope you see how happy
she made me
For I'll be there
In my daughter's eyes

“This is such a wonderful song. As the mother of two daughters, I think it really expresses the emotions involved in being a parent. We decided to cut it with just piano, vocal and string so it really let the lyrics shine through. I have never cut a song so specifically about being a parent but I just couldn’t pass this one up.

"In My Daughter's Eyes”, the first time I heard it I was completely blown away. Because I've never recorded a song completely about being a parent before, but that one really gets it. It really captures the emotion and the twist which is, these little people are dependent upon you for everything, but really you're dependent upon them as well for this joy and this light and this wonder that they fill your life up with. So, I really loved the way the song was written and I think it expressed parenthood in a beautiful way.

It’s really beautiful and speaks about what our children can teach us and how they can enrich our lives. It is a love song to our daughters.” Martina McBride

Together Again

Written by Buck Owens

Together again
My tears have stopped falling
The long lonely nights
Are now at an end

The key to my heart
You hold in your hand
And nothing else matters
We're together again

Together again
The gray skies are gone
You're back in my arms
Now where you belong

The love that I knew
Is living again
And nothing else matters
We're together again

And nothing else matters
We're together again

"I have loved this song since I was a little girl. what a great melody! A classic, timeless song that expresses the joy of reuniting with someone you love.” Martina McBride

"He [Buck Owens] called me and was really happy with my version. It meant a lot to me. He loved the way I sang it and wrote me this great letter, which I framed. He felt the passion and my connection to the lyrics." Martina McBride in an interview from the Charlotte Observer in March of 2006.

All The Things We've Never Done
Written by Craig Bickhardt and Jeff Pennig

They drank their anniversary glass
A silent moment passed
Then they kissed
She knows there's something on his mind
He'll tell her in due time
What it is

He says "I've never built
Your mansion on the hill
Or warmed you in the Spanish sun
I simply blink my eye
And think as years fly by
Of all the things we've never done"

She smiles and takes his hand in hers
And says "It just occurred
To me now
The thought that brings you such regrets
What hasn't happened yet
It makes me proud..."

"You'll never walk away
When I needed you to stay
Or made me feel I'm not the one
There've been no broken vows
And the reason we're here now
Is all the things we've never done"

"We've never grown apart
You never broke my heart
With secrets that you've kept me from
We've never been untrue
And I'm still here with you
Through all the things we've never done"

"When I heard that song, I told my co-producer, Paul Worley, 'This is my life!'. I have looked and looked for songs that have captured the relationship my husband John and I have.

This is a sweet song, and it reminds me of my husband and our relationship. I love so many lines in this, but one of my favorites is 'you never broke my heart with secrets that you kept me from.' It's about what's really important. Not all the 'stuff'... the romance, the trips, the presents. Oh, that's nice, too! But what's really important is the honesty, respect, and admiration you have for each other.” Martina McBride

Some Say I'm Runnning
Written by Brent Bourgeois and  Michael W. Smith

Here I go restless heart
Another lovely misadventure in the dark
All my friends who knew me when
Tell me not to wander down that road again

What they don't know what they can't see
It's being on that road that makes me free
Some say I'm running
I know I'm falling back to you

The water's deep under the bridge
As I pass by our old house upon the ridge
All our sins have washed away
Now all that's left are all the things we didn't say

Oh restless heart you beat so fast
While my mind is telling me that it won't last
Some say I'm running
I know I'm falling back to you

Against the odds I'll roll the dice
I guess my heart has won despite all good advice
So grab your things and come on in
And get to know your children once again

When does a fool stop being a fool?
And since when is love obliged to any rules?
Some say I'm running
I know I'm falling back to you

Let's learn to give let's talk things out
Let's give them someone else to talk about
Some say I'm running
But I know I'm falling back to you

"Well, this is definitely a different kind of love song. But I think it shows a very real and honest picture of a relationship and that this story is probably one many can relate to. Some love stories are complicated. This is a beautiful story about faith and forgiveness and hope." Martina McBride

When You Are Old
Written by Gretchen Peters

When you are old and tired and grey
Wear you overcoat on sunny days
When your brave tales have all been told
I'll ask for them when you are old

When you are old and full of sleep
And death no longer makes you weep
When your body aches with cold
I'll warm your heart when you are old

You'll still be the same to me
A comfort and a mystery
And I will be old too see
I'll need someone to comfort me

When you are old and pale and
gaunt

And a gentle hand is all you want
I will give you mine to hold
And I'll be here when you are old
Yes I will give you mine to hold
And I'll be here when you are old

“It was a real dance between the piano and the vocal, and yes, I stole the title from the W.B. Yeats poem. But this has a different slant. It's about commitment and staying together until the end. I wrote it right after I found out a real close friend had been diagnosed with AIDS. Those sorts of things can create such bonds of closeness. “Gretchen Peters

"This was on my first album. It is a beautiful, touching dream about growing old together. I think it is a comfort and a gift to whomever you are singing to. Obviously,  I thought of my husband when I recorded it, but I think it also is a sweet sentiment for your parents or a s special friend." Martina McBride
