"I am admittedly not a big fan of videos, for the reasons you mention, but I thought the Independence Day video was really well done. The house was an old abandoned house which they got permission to burn down. They only had one chance at it, obviously, and got that footage of Martina singing in front of the house while cinders were falling on her back! I don't know what I would have done differently, if I'd had the chance, I thought the video was very powerful." Gretchen Peters
"We'd never worked with Martina and we heard the song 'Independence Day' and we called Mary Hamilton at RCA and said 'We have to do this video.' And we don't normally do that." George Flanigen
"Martina McBride, Robert Deaton, and George Flanigen brought the video in. There was a little bit of anxiousness in the committee meeting and just knowing that the subject matter was gonna be a little difficult I remember watching it and thinking this was probably one of the best videos I’ve seen so far." Fran Galloway, CMT Programming Dept. 1994, in the Independence Day episode of CMT’s Controversy.

Concrete
Angel
Directed by Deaton – Flanigen
The video was shot on November 13 and 14 in Nashville. The little girl is played by Noel, and the Mother by Jeri Sager. Martina’s performing was filmed the first day at an old cemetery. The second day’s filming was at an Adult Ed school and a house, A high school classroom was turned into the first grade classroom seen in the video. Noel, Delaney, and Emma drew pictures that were put on the wall of the bedroom. Martina’s Parents and Daughter’s were at the seconds days filming to which Martina attended even though she was not scheduled to be at because she was worried about the welfare of Noel. For the abuse scene, the cameras were focused on the shadows on the wall to give the affect of the girl being hit by her mother, when really Jeri was only flailing her arms around.
"The headstone was made of Styrofoam. So we had to focus on making it look as realistic as possible.
Every time they yelled cut, she (Jeri Sager ) would have to fight back tears." Daun Knight, an assistant to the video’s Art Director.
"I was so proud to be a part of this video. I don't ever do them, but this one really appealed to me, both because of the acting possibilities and because Martina is known for doing these edgy videos and songs that address tough social issues that a lot of artists won't even touch. (She also happens to be my favorite country artist.) So I was especially pleased to book this gig.
I play an abusive mother who, during the video (although you never see it) ends up killing her little girl. It was an amazing experience and very hard. There was a lot of concern for Noel, the little girl, because in the video I actually have to shake her, with the appearance of extensive abuse.
They took a lot a time talking to her, making sure she knew it was all pretend and that she was safe and in charge. The director talked to her, her mother talked to her, and then I talked to her. She was great with the whole thing, and an experienced little actress.
What nobody anticipated was how it would affect me. The director kept asking for a little more over the top from me so we could get the feeling of violence, which obviously couldn't come from physical shaking. When we finally did the take he wanted, it was so powerful for me that as soon as he yelled, "That's it!", and I saw that Noel was okay, I burst into tears.
Martina was great. She came back and gave us both a hug and said she knew it was hard but that so much good could come from what we were doing. It really is a powerful video, disturbing and sad, because not only does it deal with the actual abuse issue, but with the denial and avoidance that occurs when people don't want to get involved. I hope you get to see it." Jeri Sager

Martina was also asked if her daughter’s like the “Timeless” music. The answer, yes, she added that a lot of it is new for them but they like it, especially, “Thanks A Lot”. The question was if Martina’s family ever gives her feedback on the songs she records. They started out playing “Whatever You Say” and commented on Martina choosing songs where she holds really long notes. After this they played “Rose Garden”. They then commented that Martina would be on the phone line when she felt like it, here joking that she had power since she is a celebrity, as they stalled for time. It sounded like they had some sort of live video casting, it was the stations 1st time using it so Gary wasn’t hearing Martina say hello so Martina said hello a few times. They talked about Martina being on Extreme Make Over. How everything for the show was kept quit and that she wasn’t even sure what she was doing on the show, other than singing two songs. They then mentioned that she was performing on the CMA awards to which Martina added that she’d be on the Today Show this Friday. It was clearly stated that she’d be performing “Till I Can Make It On My Own” during the Today show. They also mentioned her singing “Rose Garden”, from what I picked up this will be at the CMA Awards Show. The 3 of them then debated the line “So smile for a while and let's be jolly, Love shouldn't be so melancholy”, from “Rose Garden”. Going back to talk about Martina holding really long notes, they named her Queen of Long Notes and joked, “Lets try and see how long you can hold a note.” Gary put his vote down for 38 seconds. They talked about her hair being long again and then went into how she found the song “Cheap Whiskey”. They then addressed Halloween sharing what Julie’s (DJ) children where dressing up as and what Martina’s children will go as. Delany is dressing as half angel half devil and Emma as a corpse bride. Ava Martina wasn’t sure about yet, because as Martina said there are so many cute costumes such as a lamb, a lady bug, a fluffy duck. Martina said that she’d like for them to go as something coordinated bringing up the idea of one being a hotdog and another being ketchup. The response she gets being, “Mom, no, we’re not going to be a hotdog and ketchup.” They ended talking about candy, Martina stated, “Butterfingers are all mine.”

John McBride phoned in to After Midnite after the birth of Ava Rose Kathleen McBride. The conversation as best transcribed by John Staten is below.
Blair Garner: We have John McBride on hold. Is that you?
John McBride: Hey, if you'll check your missed calls, at 12:25 today your
time we had a baby and I called you about 12:30.
Blair Garner: John McBride! You know what? I gotta be honest with you buddy,
you are so...I can't believe you. You are an amazing...well your wife is
amazing but you obviously are an amazing man as well because, ladies and
gentlemen, this makes the third child--the third daughter--for John and
Martina and the third time that you called us immediately after the birth.
John McBride: That is absolutely correct.
Blair Garner: Man I just can't thank you enough. First, everyone wants to
know, how's Martina?
John McBride: She's great! See Blair, the problem is these babies keep
lookin' like you and I've just gotta call you. I don't know what's goin' on
here.
Blair Garner: Well, you know it's funny--my daughter's name is Ava.
John McBride: I love that.
Blair Garner: Yeah. We both have Ava's, but yours...Ava Rose Kathleen? It's
very unusual to have three names before the final name.
John McBride: I know...I don't know what we were thinkin'. I...ya know,
there are some family names in there. Actually, Ava isn't a family name but
we just loved that name.
Blair Garner: Well it totally works with Emma and Delaney. I mean, it's
kinda that more traditional-sounding name.
John McBride: Yeah it is. And then she is just perfect, I wanna tell ya.
Blair Garner: Nineteen and an half inches?
John McBride: Yes, and 7 pounds 7 ounces. And she is just wonderful man,
I'll tell ya.
Blair Garner: Wow. I'm just so happy for you. And you know, really and
truly, people ask me a lot of times who my favorite celebrities are, and
always at the top of my list I say you and Martina. Because think of the
amazing successes that you guys have enjoyed. I mean, ladies and gentlemen,
if you aren't familiar with John McBride's work, you probably know
Martina's, but John you've been out on the road with Garth Brooks, you've
been doing all of this stuff for Martina...You're really at the top of your
world. And the fact that you guys remain so completely down-to-earth and
include us in this special moment with your family, I just can't begin to
thank you enough.
John McBride: I have to tell ya, Martina wakes me up at 8 o'clock this
morning and goes. "Well, ya know, I'm having the real contractions"...Oh
oh...and she goes "Nah, go ahead and take a shower. Don't worry." We get to
the hospital at 9:00, she's 6 centimeters dilated. At 1:30, she's 10
centimeters. Fifty-five minutes of pushing--no epidural--baby! Then tonight
she goes, "Let's go record some more vocals." I go, "Honey, now listen...."
Blair Garner: No she didn't. The very night that she's given birth she wants
to record vocals?
John McBride: I was kidding. (Lots of laughing) But I'm tellin' ya...
Blair Garner: Well, ya get used to poppin' 'em out....
John McBride: She just rocks, man, I tell ya...that woman never ceases to
amaze me.
Blair Garner: That is just so cool, man. I can not tell you how much I
appreciate your calling in. And please give our best, not only to Martina,
but of course to little Ava Rose Kathleen, and Emma and Delaney as well.
John, thank you so much.
Program: After MidNite

Martina talked about the expectance of a third McBride child.
"You know, I think it's the kind of thing where, once you have two girls… if we had two boys, I'm sure we'd feel the same way, but we know how to do girls." Martina McBride
"This is so much different than Delaney or Emma in that this is the family baby. You know, Delaney's ten and Emma's seven, so we all have to kind of agree on a name, so we're kind of going through that right now, trying to figure out a name that everybody likes." Martina McBride

Featuring Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black this television movie is about a woman's struggle to free her rodeo star husband from a false murder conviction.
"I think it really turned out great. I had written the melody for her, and she took it from there and put her own stamp on it. There are things she did that I wouldn't have thought of. To suddenly hear someone else's interpreting what you've written was really exciting." Clint Black
"I've never sung with Clint before, but I couldn't be happier about the way we sounded together.
I had the feeling about that song and about the fact that Clint Black was involved. It just felt really big when we were recording it. I don't have that with everything I record, but that one felt like it was going to be a hit.
I admired and loved Clint Black and his music for a long time before I ever moved from Kansas to Nashville. When I heard the song (Still Holding On), that was the clincher--it's beautiful. It's great that eight years later, I'm singing on the radio with him. And it's exciting that it has caught fire so quickly." Martina McBride
